The cost of a horse varies depending on the type of keeping, feed requirements, and individual needs. Here's a rough overview:

  • Stable rent/Boarding stable: €200–€800 (depending on region & service)
  • Feed & bedding: €50–€250
  • Hoof care (farrier, barefoot trimming): €40–€150 (every 6–8 weeks)
  • Veterinary costs (vaccinations, deworming): approx. €30–€80 per month
  • Insurance (liability, surgical insurance): €10–€80
  • Additional costs (riding lessons, equipment, supplements): as needed

➡️ Conclusion: The monthly costs for a horse are at least €300–€600, but can easily exceed €1,000 for sport horses or special keeping arrangements.

My Horse's Behavior

Headshaking can have various causes:

  • Boredom or stress: Especially when stabled or due to insufficient training.
  • Uncomfortable equipment: A poorly fitting bit or a noseband that is too tight can cause pain.
  • Allergies or irritations: Sweet itch, flies, or headshaking syndrome (neurological cause).
  • Dental problems: If the horse suddenly starts headshaking while riding, a visit to the dentist might be necessary.

Security

There are various systems available for remotely monitoring horses:

  • Surveillance Cameras: Live streams from the stable or pasture, often with motion sensors & night vision.
  • GPS Trackers for Horses: Monitor movement patterns & location – useful for large pastures or in case of theft risk.
  • Smart Stable Sensors: Measure air quality, temperature & detect unusual movements (e.g., lying down due to colic)

Unfortunately, horse thefts are underestimated.

These measures help:

🔒 Securing the stable & pasture:

  • Secure pasture gates with special locks
  • Install surveillance cameras or trail cameras
  • Lock the stable at night (if possible)
