How do you house-train a dog?

Potty training is an important aspect of puppy rearing that requires patience, time, and consistency. The following steps can help teach your puppy that the house is not a place to do its business:

1. Create a schedule: It is important to teach your puppy that there are specific times when it should do its business. Taking your puppy outside every 2-3 hours has proven helpful, as well as after eating, drinking, sleeping, and playing.
2. Acknowledge and reward good behavior: When your puppy does its business outside, praise it and give it a treat. Positive reinforcement is an effective method to encourage good behavior.
3. Watch for signs: Observe your puppy for signs such as sniffing, circling, or scratching at the door. If this is the case, take it outside immediately.
4. Avoid punishment: Do not punish your puppy if it has an accident in the house. Please never scold or even send it to a corner. This will make your puppy scared and possibly lead it to do its business secretly.
5. Clean accidents thoroughly: If your puppy has an accident indoors, clean it carefully to remove the odor. Dogs have a strong sense of smell and can still detect the smell of urine and feces even when you can no longer smell it.
6. Be patient: Potty training takes time and patience and doesn't happen overnight. Be persistent and repeatedly encourage your puppy to do its business outside. Don't forget to praise and reward.
